Biography

After graduating with a Master's degree in Design from the Vilnius Academy of Arts, Jonas Liugaila worked as a freelance designer, mainly in the field of education and design interaction. In this phase, his professional interest led him towards questioning the status quo and identifying the causality of the problems entrusted to design.

He is now co-founder and design strategist and development lead at research and design agency The Critical. The agency works on both business and social challenges to achieve measurable change and impact. The agency's portfolio of work includes place-making projects, participatory design for universities and city identities, the creation, repositioning and refreshing of identities of brands with historical significance or world-changing ambitions, effective packaging solutions, service-oriented design cases and more.

In his public activities, Jonas is the Secretary General of the International Council of Design, a member of the boards of the Lithuanian Design Association and the Lithuanian Design Council, which is active at the inter-ministerial level and is involved in design advocacy and consultancy.
