Biography
Onur Yazıcıgil is an Istanbul-based typographer and design educator.
Upon receiving his BFA in Graphic Design, he was awarded a full scholarship to Purdue University, where he pursued an MFA in Visual Communication Design. During his graduate studies, he won the 1st prize in typography from the Society of Typographic Arts in Chicago (2007). His first typeface, Duru Sans, was acquired by Google into the Google Fonts platform. He completed his PhD in the history of Ottoman Arabic metal typefaces from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2020.
Since 2009 he has taught typography and graphic design classes as a faculty member at Sabancı University.
He co-founded ISType (Istanbul Typography Conference), where he has been directing its international conferences since 2011.
